Eduardo de Oliveira Barata is a registered architect in NSW (ARB No. 9844) and director of B A R A T A, an architectural practice dedicated to creating pragmatic and well-crafted homes in and around Sydney. His studio operates across all phases of design working closely with his clients from concept development and spatial planning to design documentation, interiors, and contract administration.

Beyond practice, Eduardo is a lecturer at the University of Sydney’s School of Architecture, Design and Planning, where he has been lecturing and teaching since 2010. His academic work focuses on experimental design methodologies, fostering hands-on engagement through experimental built works. His research integrates advanced computational fabrication techniques and material innovations to generate responsive, performative architectural strategies—aimed at reinforcing structural pragmatism while addressing contemporary environmental sensitivities.

Prior to establishing B A R A T A, Eduardo joined Urban Future Organization (UFO) in 2005, a global network of self-organized architecture studios exploring shared design strategies in both practice and academia. During his tenure, he lectured and led workshops at London Metropolitan University, the Architectural Association, Greenwich University, and Brighton University. Between 2007 and 2009, he collaborated with Gianni Botsford Architects on multiple award-winning competition entries for projects in Dubai, New York, and Riga.

Between 2009 and 2017 Eduardo co-directed UFO Sydney. His portfolio during this period spans installations, exhibitions, architectural publications, commercial fit-outs, and residential developments—reflecting a cross-disciplinary approach to contemporary architectural practice.
