The brief was to renovate a three bedroom 1950's brown brick interwar property, transforming it as a five bedroom plus office contemporary beach house. The entire top level bedroom block hovers above the existing volume, producing a sliver of operable glazing above the entry and living areas and provides cross ventilation with the summer north-easterlies. A living green roof on the rear of the original building is populated with beach grasses to add organic texture to the upper level. Both street (eastern) and rear (western) facade include gradient louvered walls that reference the coloured hues reflected over the ocean during the sunrise and sunset . The main feature of the house is a curved stairwell which blends the upper circulation to produce a high connectivity to the first floor below.
